In the first part of the book I learned about his parents and their relationship. I learned also about the main character Augusten and what he likes. He also loves his mother and he loves his close relationship with her. As he got a little older his parents grew apart despite their marriage therapist Dr. Finch. When his parents divorced his mother started to get all about herself and Augusten was drifting away from her. He started to make friends with Dr. Finch's kids. Soon his mom told Augusten he would be living with Dr. Finch. By the end of the first part he was living with the doctor for weeks. He was also finding out he was gay and he didn't fit into school.
