In running with scissors the author has been ditched by his boyfriend. His boyfriend left in the middle of the night and never came back. The author and his friend from the Finch's house went job searching so they could afford more things and stop borrowing money from the family or Augusten's mother. The friend got a job at McDonalds, and Augusten was very jealous. He also was talking about the Christmas tree and how it had been out for to long.
